Hi: My name is Hope and recently I received an announcement from the Westchase Singles Club on my email account: “Great parties for Great Singles" at the Westchase Golf Club”. HHHMMM I thought..... probably not. Then another reminder comes from a friend, who e-mailed me hers with a note “just in case you did not get this”. A sign?? 

Okay, I say to myself, I’ll make a deal. If I do go, and no one talks to me and I feel totally out of place,

then I get to leave, go get ice cream, bring it home and watch a movie. Pretty good bribe, I think. Deal!!

Friday night arrives. I'm going to be brave. I tell myself nothing bad will happen and there is always the ice cream!! You can do this I'm telling myself. You do not have to stay long and “you will never meet anyone if you do not leave the house”. My mother’s words ringing in my ears.

I walk in, feeling so nervous and anxious, looking around the room for a friendly face and trying to figure out what to do with myself. The people there seem friendly and I find a very nice woman to talk to. She is waiting for two of her friends to arrive and we begin chatting.

I began to “scan” the room and notice an attractive man with warm and friendly eyes and a great smile.

I think I will go and talk with him. I find he is funny, interesting and introduces me to some of his friends who are also funny and very friendly. Hey! I am having a good time.

And I have to say that Jim, the host, could not have been nicer. He seems to genuinely care about people having a good time and mingling, and is very warm and friendly.

I'm shy, and not one to go “out there” on my own. There is always the fear of feeling alone thinking all the

negative ‘what ifs’. And they can, in fact, be true. However, I found several of the people at the Westchase Singles Club to be very friendly and there for the same reason. To meet other nice people to have a conversation with, maybe meet the person of their dreams, but if not to have an enjoyable evening not sitting alone at home. A way to connect with other people with face to face communication…...not “talking” to the computer screen. 

All in all I found this evening and the club to be a very pleasant experience and one that I will not hesitate to do again. And, it was a whole lot more satisfying than ice cream!!!
